Our Loss of Moral Comprehension

President Obama in his speech at Rutgers University Center for Law and Justice Building Newark, New Jersey November 2, 2015 said the following; “I’m taking action to ‘ban the box’… for the most competitive jobs at federal agencies.” Think about what that means for a moment. In the near future a former embezzler may be handling your IRS case or levying a fine through the EPA. Maybe they’re just answering your Medicare, social security questions? ..

“Over the course of this year, I’ve been talking to people all across the country about reforming our criminal justice system to be fairer, to be smarter, to be more effective.” “And I have to tell you that from all these conversations, I have, at times, despaired about the magnitude of the problem. I’ve asked myself, how do we break the cycle that has young children somehow on that pipeline where they end up incarcerated?” “.. there are 2.2 million Americans behind bars..” ” Around 70 million Americans have some sort of criminal record.” “.. that record disqualifies you from being a full participant in our society — even if you’ve already paid your debt to society.”

Fast Forward to 2016 and we now have DOJ guidelines for our criminals, er, justice-challenged individuals.

“Criminals” is an inherently disparaging term that leads to stigmatization and decreased access to our reunification seminars. We need to retroactively re-think about those unfortunate souls who found themselves pursued by harsh enforcers of restrictive societal guidelines?

Let’s review a few; Jack the Ripper was merely a “cutlery-involved individual” while Jeffrey Dahmer was simply an “unconventional dietary-choice-involved individual.” Rapists are “sexual-justice-involved” persons. The list of palatable and modern polite speak is endless. How unfortunate for those of us mired in the reactionary, narrow-minded, bigoted, xenophobic past.

We need to be more accepting of those who were caught stealing, raping, kidnapping, assaulting. extorting, embezzling, or murdering. They were just thinking outside the societal box we constrained them to live their lives. You see it’s all a matter of perspective. If you don’t have sufficient perspective, than our new educational guidelines will help. If you don’t comply, we may withhold your considerable federal funds. Non-compliance may mean you also lose your accreditation. We wouldn’t want that, would we?

Obama_at_Rutgers_commencement_speech_2016President gave a commencement speech to Rutgers University graduates this last weekend. He spent a significant portion of it talking about the problems of our society. Like any good politician, they build their case to describe the “problems” of the system they want to change. This is fairly easy now because we’ve come a long way in our indoctrination of double speak, where wrong is right, and up is down if we only learn to accept things on the collectives terms. Choosing any serious infraction of the new speak rules, can land you in public opinion kangaroo court, or worse, up against any of the all powerful, DHS, FBI, IRS, NSA, EPA, DOJ, or other 3 letter acronym. The catchy phrasing of “Ban the Box“, becomes a subset of new words which are meaningless speech of the 21st century PC lexicon.

Now lets talk about voting rights. Yes, our new definitions provide an enhanced, open-minded perspective on who is permitted to vote. We think those former, “justice-involved individuals“, need to have all of their rights restored. After all, they re-paid their debt to society, so what if your brother was murdered or your sister raped, your company out of business due to criminal fiscal mismanagement, we just need to come together and heal

I think there’s a wonderful way to seek further enlightenment. Timothy Leary used a stronger, faster acting mind poison back in the 1960’s, LSD, to re-alter the senses, and as the government learned a decade earlier, an easy way to reprogram the mind. Changes through behind the scene politics, entertainment, most mass media, and the constant influence of our peers has brought us gradually forward to the utopia envisioned by those who believe they have a divine gift to manipulate and manage the herd. Pass around that cannabis, so we can be even more catatonic and compliant.

Our federal government is writing policies to make schools safer for people who want to pee where they like and play on the sports team of their choice. Meanwhile they are also making it more likely that everybody is less safe.

LSD can be psychically violent. It can hijack the user’s mind, supposedly gently revealing life’s latent truths, or it can turn bully, reducing the user to a state of abject fear. Drugs derived from chemical compounds or herbs like “magic mushrooms”, alter brain behavior, psychiclogical reactions, primarily by decreasing certain function of brain activity. This gives the user a perception of greater awareness through alteration of brain function. It’s not a substitute for greater observation and learning, merely a false substitute masquerading as beneficial, as long as the user continue its use.

Another Tragedy Politicized

President Obama says: “we spend huge amounts of money every year fighting terrorism, yet are unwilling, at the national level, to take even minor steps (like requiring background checks on all gun sales nationally) to stop gun violence.

I’m not an insensitive person who doesn’t care about tragedies like that which has just occurred in Roseburg Oregon. Any sane person witnessing such a tragedy has to be saddened by this senseless act of violence.

I am disturbed by the President immediately taking the opportunity to push for a political agenda to ultimately eliminate the private ownership of firearms in the U.S. That is the ultimate objective, even if only minor incremental steps can be taken to achieve the final goal. He like many others, are more than willing to appeal to our emotions right after such an incident. Using the same tactic which Rahm Emmanuel while White House Chief of Staff., now mayor of Chicago, espoused. His idea is the basis for moving forward a previously unpopular agenda when the timing becomes right, “You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it’s an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before.

I don’t wish to be part of a constant political discussion which for decades hasn’t really come up with workable solutions. First, what the President said was misleading, background checks are required on all “legal” gun sales throughout the entire United States. The only exception is private sales between individuals. This is Federal law and despite the rhetoric, has nothing to do with prevention of what has happened.

Here is the universal background requirement to legally sell a firearm anywhere in the United States.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, is all about saving lives and protecting people from harm—by not letting guns and explosives fall into the wrong hands. It also ensures the timely transfer of firearms to eligible gun buyers.

Mandated by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993 and launched by the FBI on November 30, 1998, NICS is used by Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) to instantly determine whether a prospective buyer is eligible to buy firearms or explosives. Before ringing up the sale, cashiers call in a check to the FBI or to other designated agencies to ensure that each customer does not have a criminal record or isn’t otherwise ineligible to make a purchase. More than 100 million such checks have been made in the last decade, leading to more than 700,000 denials.

Now here’s my problems with the existing system. Statistics show few people are followed up by a visit from law enforcement if they were turned down after a background check. Any convicted felon should automatically be investigated if they attempt to purchase a firearm through legal channels. Obviously, just like drugs, there’s going to be an underground traffic of firearms. You can’t stop it, even though that’s not permitted.

The federal background check needs to link to a mental health database. Those who have diagnosed problems such as violence, depression, or suicide, need to be linked into this system. The theater shooter in Colorado was receiving mental health treatment. The doctor testified, James Holmes had serious mental health issues. He should have been denied the purchase of a firearm.

After John F Kennedy was assassinated, firearms can’t be purchased through mail order. A federal firearms licensed dealer can be used to complete an online or mail order purchase. The seller must receive and verify the active FFL information before they complete the transaction. The buyer is still required to go through a background check and pickup the firearm from the FFL dealer if this background check is approved.

The so called gun show loophole is more hype than fact. If you wish to purchase a firearm at a gun show, only licensed vendors can sell at these shows, so a background check is still required before purchase. The “loophole”, is any individual can walk around with a firearm for sale. This means a private party could sell to anyone in a private sale. The law allows a private party to sell, or give firearms to anyone, at a show or in their home. There are some people who want that to be changed. In practical terms, it’s not a workable idea. The statistics don’t show private sales between individuals at a gun show to be a problem. The reason this isn’t a problem is rather simple. These shows are watched closely and attended by local police. If you’re someone that shouldn’t be seen buying a gun in public, these are not a good place for an illegal private party transaction.

Theft of guns, private “underground” sales, illegal transfer of firearms does exist, but that’s the part, even with new laws, isn’t going to be any more effective than stopping illegal drug sales or prohibition did for alcohol.

Firearms laws exist, but in my opinion, need better enforcement and the background check include those with serious mental health issues.

Self-defense is the first law of nature. Each person owns his or her own life and no other person has a right to take that life. Those who would attempt to stop you from defending yourself, are attacking the very right from which all other rights are derived, protection of one’s own life.

It’s 2014… Where’s my hovercraft?

ImageWhen I was young we looked forward to a bright future filled with happy, technologically advanced people. They used all sorts of gadgets to enhance their lives including personal transportation that flies. Of course much of that was speculation, but at the time seemed so close within our grasp. Instead we’re left with the memories of last year.

We have no job, no food on the table and our home has been foreclosed, but at least we have ‘hope’. Phew, thank goodness for that.

Goodbye 2013, the year of crud & corruption.

  •  Armed drones
  •  Crazed psychotropic drug addled mass shooters
  •  IRS harassment of people the government doesn’t like
  •  NSA capturing all transmitted data & phone calls
  •  Government mandated health insurance with IRS as compliance enforcement agent
  •  6 hours of gun battle and security breach at U.S. Embassy in Benghazi Libya ignored by President & Staff
  •  DHS begins purchase of 1.4 billion rounds of ammunition
  •  Gender identity ignored for some states school bathrooms
  • Climate panic (Global warming proven false but data ignored by many desiring government intervention)
  • Illegal immigration furthered by government inaction
  •  Higher gasoline prices at the pump
  •  Crazed bombers successful at Boston marathon – interviewed by FBI warned by the Russian intelligence
  •  Local governments demanding law-abiding citizens register their firearms
  •  Armored vehicles gifted to Police Departments from the government through the DHS
  • $17 Trillion in national debt and the count continues.

It was time we end that year but unfortunately the consequences of past decisions linger on for 2014. We can hope for a brighter future, but one isn’t likely to emerge unless we do things quite differently in 2014.
