The New Year 2012

Here we are, at the beginning of a new year. 2011 was a busy year for world change. It wasn’t a year of economic recovery for many but the US is a resilient country. Things will get better and perhaps 2012 is that year. To say the least we are in a dynamic world with change all around. I’m very happy with one of those changes, the exit of our country from Iraq. I can only hope we do the same thing in the coming year from Afghanistan.

I’ll say these few words about this and get off the topic; I would like the US to stop being so narcissistic. We believe we have the answers for the worlds problems and we’ll send in the Marines to introduce you to our way of life. I still don’t understand where we have the hubris to invade countries, kill people and then turn around and call ourselves Christians. Why not drench people in kindness? That sounds extremely naive to many people but we have tried the other technique for so long, how well is it working?

At the end of the year the universally heard song is Auld Lang Syne. Some of the words to that song say,

Auld Lang Syne

for auld lang syne,
we’ll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
and surely I’ll buy mine !
And we’ll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Surely we can do more than just sing about kindness. Let’s try something different in 2012.
